Autumn
Submitted by EnglishMania on
The leaves were falling from the trees and the chill of autumn had settled in the air. Abi was standing on her balcony looking out on the sea of crimson and burnt orange. All of a sudden she remembered that this was the time of year that she registered for online courses.
A few days later, the class began, and Abi was excited to learn all the fundamentals of painting. After several weeks, Abi was becoming quite proficient at her art form and was feeling really good about her progress.
However, since the class was an online course, Abi couldn't help but feel that something was missing. Then one day, a new student signed up for the class. Her name was Anna, and Abi could tell she was from somewhere far away.
Anna had recently moved to America and was separated from her family while they all stayed in her home country of England. To keep from being too homesick, Anna had decided to sign up for the online painting course as a way to learn something new and connect with people from her newfound home.
Abi and Anna hit it off instantly and Abi realized that Anna didn't seem very comfortable with the English language. In an effort to help her friend, Abi began teaching her little by little. In a short time, Anna was becoming more comfortable with the English language, and the two of them even conducted their painting class in English.
At the end of the class, Abi felt incredibly proud for helping her new friend. As she watched the leaves falling from the trees and the colors of the season changing, she couldn't help but smile; for she had learned a valuable lesson and made a new friend in the process.
